A Wild 4x4 Road to Marble Mountain in Colorado

Marble Mountain is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3,699 m (12,135 ft) above sea level, located in Rio Grande County, in the U.S. state of Colorado. It’s one of the highest roads in Colorado.

Where is Marble Mountain?

The pass is located in the south-central part of Colorado, within the Rio Grande National Forest, to the west of Sheep Mountain. At the summit, you'll find excellent views of the surrounding peaks.

How Long is the Road to Marble Mountain in Colorado?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s about 8 km (5 miles) long, running east-west from Blowout Pass to USFS-334 road. A good-clearance 4WD vehicle is required.

Is the Road to Marble Mountain in Colorado Open in Winter?

Set high in the eastern San Juan Mountains, the road is usually impassable in the winter. It’s typically open from late June through mid-September.
