Located in San Francisco East Bay, the road to the summit is fully paved. It’s called Summit Road.
Is Mt Diablo hard?
Tucked away in the Mount Diablo State Park, the road to the isolated mound is 17.05km (10.6 miles) starting in Diablo town. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1.022m. The average gradient is 5.99%, hitting a 10.5% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. It’s a road with lots of curves to the top and there are lots of cyclists to watch out for.
Is Mt Diablo worth it?
Set high in the Diablo Range, the road is usually open year-round. The drive offers stunning views. There's a small shop at the summit and an exhibit. The Summit Visitor’s Center was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s with sandstone quarried from the park and is abundant with ancient marine fossils. At the summit is a parking lot.
