Road trip guide: Conquering Moffit Pass in UT
Moffit Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.144m (10,314ft) above the sea level, located in Summit County, in the U.S. state of Utah.
Tucked away in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 135 (east side) and Forest Road 060 (west side). It’s a rough dirt road suitable only to high clearance 4x4 vehicles.
Located to the west of Whitney Reservoir, the drive is 6.75km (4.2 miles) long running east-west from Gold Hill Road (FR160) to Forest Road 071 through a beautiful landscape of mountain meadows and pines. Set high in the Uinta Mountains, it’s seasonally closed and opened from mid-May through mid-October.
