A rough 4x4 road to Bald Mountain in ID
Bald Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.626m (5,334ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary between Latah and Benewah counties, in the U.S. state of Idaho. The road to the summit is a bit bumpy with some areas which need to be taken slowly.
Set high in the Hoodoo Mountain Range, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 377-A. It’s a single lane, dirt surface road that is rarely graded and slippery when wet. Starting at State Highway 6, known as the White Pine Scenic Byway, the drive is 13.35km (8.3 miles) long. The road is typically open from early July through early October. Vehicles with good ground clearance are required. Trailers are not recommended due to some rough spots on the road. The last mile of road is rough and has many water bars, so travel is slow.
Tucked away in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Idaho, the summit hosts a fire lookout tower constructed in 1964, offering a thrilling perspective of the surrounding landscape. Keep in mind that this is a wilderness setting, and understandably it's not a place for young children.
