An exciting and pleasant road trip to Sex Peak in MT
Sex Peak is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.767m (5,797ft) above the sea level, located in Sanders County, in the U.S. state of Montana.
How Sex Peak in Montana Got Its Name?
Set high in the Rocky Mountains, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Road 2222. A high clearance vehicle is required. The summit hosts a fire lookout tower, built in the early 1920s and replaced by the current lookout in 1948. A conversation between a park official (Harry Baker) and a forester (I.V. Anderson) about sex supposedly caused the name Sex Peak to be selected.
How long is the road to Sex Peak in Montana?
Tucked away in the Kootenai National Forest, the road to the summit is 30.25km (18.8 miles) long starting at MT-200, south of White Pine. The road is usually open from late June through mid-October. The summit offers panoramic views of Clarks Fork Valley, the Bitterroot Mountains to the west and the Cabinet Range to the east.
