How To Travel The Utah Forest Road 17
Utah Forest Road 17 (FH-17) is a very scenic fairly wide drive through the high mountains of Garfield County, in south central Utah, United States.
Set high in the Dixie National Forest, the road, also known as Old Escalante Road, is although gravel - wide and smooth. It is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow). It is not generally snow-free until late June or even July in some years. The road tops out at 2.839m (9,314ft) above the sea level. It’s steep in parts, hitting an 11% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
Located in southern Utah, Utah Forest Road 17 (FH-17) is 35.72km (22.2 miles) long, running west-east from the paved Johns Valley Road to the paved UT-12. The trail is a moderately difficult drive over a variety of surfaces and conditions. However, it’s usually free of potholes, washboards or any other sort of irregularities. A high clearance vehicle is recommended.
