Road trip guide: Conquering Big Hole Pass in MT
Big Hole Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.256m (7,401ft) above the sea level, located in Beaverhead County, in the U.S. state of Montana.
The road to the summit is totally paved. It’s called Montana State Highway 278 (MT-278). The drive offers spectacular views of the Pioneer Mountain Range. The drive is steep, hitting a 9% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
The pass road is 97.68 km (60.7 miles) long, running north-southeast from Wisdom to Dillon, the county seat of Beaverhead County.
