A memorable road trip to Indian Rock
Indian Rock is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.195m (7,201ft) above the sea level, located in Grant County, in the U.S. state of Oregon.
Set high in the northeast portion of the Malheur National Forest, the road to the summit is totally unpaved but driveable in a passenger automobile in dry weather. The summit hosts a staffed fire lookout built in 1957. Near the summit there’s a campground known as Head O'Boulder Campground. The road is usually passable from Mid-June to October.
The road to the summit is very steep, hitting a 10.8% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at NF-45 road, the ascent is 4.18km (2.6 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 292 meters. The average gradient is 6.98%.
