A narrow shelf road to Gold Strike Pass in NV
Gold Strike Pass is a mountain pass at an elevation of 734m (2,408ft) above the sea level, located in Clark County, in the U.S. state of Nevada.
Located in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, close to Las Vegas, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Goldstrike Pass Road. The trail follows a loose rock and dirt shelf road that is narrow which can make it tight when passing other vehicles. Always check the weather forecast before you start your journey: adverse conditions are common. Washouts are common during wet weather so be cautious. Watch for blind corners on the ledge road. You'll immediately climb up narrow ledges with switchbacks high above the lake and highway traffic.
Starting from the paved US-93, the road to the summit is 3.37km (2.1 miles) long. A stock SUV with high clearance is recommended. The drive offers great views of the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead region.
