The Ultimate Guide to Mount Powell
Mount Powell is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.667m (8,750ft) above the sea level, located in McKinley County, in the northwestern section of the U.S. state of New Mexico.
Located in the heart of the Cibola National Forest on the Navajo Nation, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Mount Powell Road (Indian Service Rte 50). 4x4 vehicle recommended. The peak is topped by numerous communication towers.
The road to the summit is pretty steep. Starting from the paved NM-371 road, the ascent is 11.42km (7.1 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 445 meters. The average gradient is 3.89%.
