Fog and bad weather on the road to Paso de la Muerte
Death Pass (Paso de la Muerte in Spanish) is a terrible high mountain road linking the small community of Coronado Castillo to the rest of the state of Tamaulipas. Words can’t describe the road and pictures don’t do it justice.
This road is particularly dangerous due the constant fog and bad weather conditions. Narrow segments (impassable for 2 cars at the same time) and steep grade make a great challenge to drive. This road tests the skill, and courage, of any driver. It’s definitely not for anyone suffering from vertigo or a fear of landslides.
The surface of the road is gravel. One mistake and it's a free fall to your death. The road is bordered by a drop of hundreds of meters (many hundreds of feet) unprotected by guardrails.
