This road connects two major cities in Mexico: Chihuahua, the capital of Chihuahua state, and Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora. The distance between these cities takes at least 11 hours of scenic driving.

Is Road Mexico 16 Worth the Drive?

One of the main attractions near this highway is Basaseachic Falls National Park, home to Mexico's two tallest waterfalls: Basaseachic (the second tallest) and Piedra Volada, the highest but inaccessible. This park is a must-see in Mexico, offering incredible views of canyons and waterfalls. Be sure to stop at the Basaseachic Falls overlook near this road in the direction of Creel, a secondary point within the national park.

This road can be dangerous due to its long distance between major towns, low traffic, and exposure to bad weather conditions such as rain, snow, and fog. Additionally, drivers may experience fatigue from long-haul driving between the two major cities.
