The hairpinned road to Barranca de Beltran
Barranca de Beltrán roads (both Mexico 54D and Mexico 54, autopista Guadalajara-Manzanillo) link Guadalajara to the Pacific Ocean, mainly the cities like Colima and the resort city of Manzanillo.
One of the most spectacular sections of the road is near Beltrán canyon, where a serie of high bridges were built for the toll road, and currently a second segment under construction for additional toll lanes towards Colima. The “libre” or free route has 5 hairpinned curves, offering great views of the canyons and under the huge toll bridges.
This route also gives great views of the Nevado de Colima mountain and volcano of Colima, some canyons made from the volcanos and different biomes in different sections of the road, from coconut palms near Manzanillo, tropical rain forest near Colima, to plain desert near Sayula lagoon.
