At 22 kilometers long, it is the second-largest glacier-fed lake in the world. Surrounded by several towering mountain peaks, it is renowned for the color of its water, the three glaciers visible from the lake, and Spirit Island, a frequently photographed islet.

How Long is the Road to Maligne Lake?

Starting from the Trans-Canada Highway, north of Jasper, the scenic road to the lake is 43.6 km (27.09 miles) long. The road, ringed by snow-and-ice-capped mountains, is quite winding. It is as challenging as it is scenic, with breathtaking views along the way. Long, sustained climbs are mixed with some of Jasper's best wildlife viewing, especially along Medicine Lake, where bighorn sheep are often seen.
