Güzeldere Geçidi
Güzeldere Geçidi is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.763m (9,064ft) above the sea level, located in Van Province, in south-eastern Turkey, near the Iranian border. It’s one of the highest roads of Europe.
The road to the summit is asphalted. It’s called D975. The pass is located between the cities of Başkale and Güzelsu Bucağı. The climb is pretty steep. Subject to winter storms. It’s one of the highest paved roads of the country.
A communication tower sits east the pass, at an elevation of 2.847m (9,340ft) above the sea level. The road is gravel, steep, with 5 hairpin turns. The ascent is 1km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 84 meters. The average gradient is 8.4%.
