The paved road to Babadağ in Turkey will take your breath away
Babadağ (Father Mountain) is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.940m (6,364ft) above sea level, located in Muğla Province, Turkey.
Where is Babadağ located?
Set high in the Taurus mountain range, in the Aegean Region on the southwestern part of the country, over the bay of Oludeniz, the mountain is also known as Mount Anticragus and Mount Cragus.
Can you drive up Babadağ?
A recently paved road climbs up to the top of the mountain. It’s a toll road. At times, the road is very narrow and there are no crash barriers. Expect thick fog and visibility reduced to a few meters often.
How long is the road to Babadağ?
Starting at Ölüdeniz, the road to the summit is 15.4km (9.56 miles) long. It’s a very steep drive, hitting a 20% maximum gradient through some of the ramps. The elevation gain is 1.629 meters. The average gradient is 10.57%.
How long does it take to drive up Babadağ?
To drive the road without stopping will take most people between 35 and 45 minutes. The summit hosts a parking lot and a café bar. The peak is also notable for the proximity of its summit to the sea (less than 5 km), which is one of the factors that make it particularly suitable and popular for paragliding. It’s said to be the highest official takeoff site in the world for paragliding and one of the most popular paragliding spots in the world. The drive offers stunning views high above the blue Mediterranean waters of the Turquoise Coast of Turkey. On a clear and cloudless day, you can see the Greek Island of Rhodes. Go early; it can get very busy.
