The road to the summit is totally paved but in pretty bad conditions. It’s called D865. Access to the pass is typically open all year round, but short-term closures are common in winter due to dangerous weather conditions.
What’s the Eğribel Tunnel?
In 2021, the most challenging part of the road was bypassed by the 5.9km long Eğribel Tunnel. With the construction of the new tunnel, the road has been shortened by 6.5 kilometers, and a time saving of 20 minutes on the route was also achieved.

The road is 108km (67 miles) long, running south-north from Şebinkarahisar (the administrative seat for Şebinkarahisar District, Giresun Province) to Giresun (the provincial capital of Giresun Province). The road has steep sections, hitting a 10% maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
