Karagöller lakes are 4 small mountain lakes at an elevation of 2.972m (9,750ft) above the sea level, located in Artvin Province, in the Black Sea region of Turkey. It’s one of the highest roads of Europe.
Located to the east of Egripinar Tepesi peak the road to the black lakes is totally unpaved. A 4x4 vehicle is required. Starting at Çavdarlı, the road to the lakes is 17km (10.56 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.303 meters. The average gradient is 7.66%.
Set high in the northeastern corner of the country, the road is seasonally impassable. At this altitude winter lasts a long time; it’s closed from November to April. It's one of the highest roads of the country.
