The Ultimate Road Trip To Seyithan Lake
Seyithan Gölü is a high mountain glacial lake at an elevation of 3.298m (10,820ft), located in Hakkâri province of Turkey. It’s one of the highest roads of Europe.
Set high in the East Anatolian region, in the southeastern part of the country, near the Iraq–Turkey border the road to the lake is totally unpaved nestled among snow-capped mountains. A 4x4 vehicle is required. This road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow). The drive features stunning views that will linger on our minds long after we've left those places, creating beautiful memories. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
Tucked away at the top of Cilo Mountain, the road to the lake is very steep, hitting a 15% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at Hakkâri, the capital of the Hakkâri Province, the ascent is 23 km (14 miles) long. Over this elevation, the elevation gain is 2.056 meters. The average gradient is 8.93%.
