The breathtaking 4x4 road to Kara Dağ
Kara Dağ is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.308m (10,853ft) above the sea level, located in Hakkâri province of Turkey. It’s one of the highest roads of Europe.
Set high in the southeastern part of the country, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. A 4x4 vehicle is required. This road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow). The open and close dates all depend on snowmelt and snowfall each year. The drive features stunning views that will linger on our minds long after we've left those places, creating beautiful memories. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
The road to the summit is very steep, hitting a 12% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at Çepkenli, the ascent is 26.6 km (16.52 miles) long. Over this elevation, the average gradient is 4.17%.
