An awe-inspiring drive to Lac de Châteaupré
Lac de Châteaupré is a glacial lake at an elevation of 2.357m (7,732ft) above the sea level, located in the municipality of Grimentz, in the district of Sierre in the Swiss canton of Valais.
Located in the Val d’Anniviers in the heart of the Valais in Southern Switzerland, the road to the lake is totally paved and was completed in the 1950's. Expect a narrow road unprotected by guardrails. It's said to be one of the nicest lakes in the world. This very scenic route runs along the Lac de Moiry (Lake Moiry) and has great views on glaciers and high, snow-capped mountains. The road ends at a big parking lot, north of the lake.
This road is usually open from end of June to the first big snowfall, but it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. Road closures can be frequent, so check conditions before traveling to this area. Starting from Grimentz, the road to the lake is 11.9 km long.
