Cabo Tiñoso
Cabo Tiñoso is a very scenic cape located west of the city of Cartagena, on the coastline of the Region of Murcia, in Spain. It is not a drive for drivers of a nervous disposition.
The scenic road to the cape is asphalted, but bumpy. It’s called RM-E23. The road is horrible and scary dangerous, with very narrow parts where there's only room for one car. Best avoid it if you are afraid of heights and pray you do not meet a touris coach while on the last bit of the drive.Starting from the main E-22 road, the drive is 11.9 km long. The road does get busier at weekends and in the main holiday season. You must be a confident driver, as the road is very twisty and narrow in some places with steep drops to one side.
The road was built in the 1920’s. It’s a former military road. The road ends on a parking lot to access the Bateria de Castillitos, an old abandoned gun battery equipped with some very large cannons. The guns were only fired once, in 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. The views along this road are magnificent but for the drive sightseeing is best left until the car is parked.
