Estanho de Vilac
Estanho de Vilac is a high mountain lake with an influence of Atlantic climate at an elevation of 1.642m (5,387ft) above the sea level, located in the Val d'Aran, a valley in the Pyrenees mountains in the northwestern part of the province of Lleida, in Catalonia, northern Spain. The average gradient is 8.85%.
The road to the lake is gravel, rocky and treacherous in parts. Weather conditions can change quickly and be harsh. Open to traffic throughout the year, may be closed for short periods in winter when the weather is bad. 4wd vehicle required. Only travel on this road when it is dry. The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views over Vielha. Starting from Vilac town, at 1.040m above the sea level, the ascent is 6.8 km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 602 meters. The average gradient is 8.85%.
