Faro do Monte Faro
Monte Faro lighthouse is located on the Cíes Islands, an archipelago off the coast of Pontevedra in Galicia (Spain). The track is for 4x4 vehicles only. Closed to private vehicles. The road to the summit includes 10 steep hairpin turns.
The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views. Located within the Atlantic Islands National Park, the road to the lighthouse is a rugged track following the coastline exposed directly to the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse is at the very top, as well as the most emblematic viewpoint in the Cíes Islands.
The lighthouse sits at at 178 meters altitude. Built between 1851 and 1853, the road is subject to strong winds, rain, electrical storms and rapid weather changes. High winds blow here all year long. This is definitely one road trip that you want to record with lots of photographs. The drive offers striking views of the lighthouse and the coast. From there, you’ll have a panoramic view of the whole archipelago: the three islands, their cliffs, beaches and the entire Vigo estuary.
