El Travieso
El Travieso is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.858m (6,095ft) above the sea level, located in the province of Salamanca, Castile and León, Spain.
Located in Sierra de Béjar, in the far west of the Sierra de Gredos (Sistema Central), the small mountain road to the summit is asphalted but narrow in parts with some dropoffs. The summit sits on the border between Ávila and Salamanca provinces, within the Candelario Natural Park. Open to traffic throughout the year, may be closed for short periods in winter when the weather is bad. The minimum temperatures in winter can drop below -15 ºC and the winds guts can be very stong sometimes.
It’s pretty steep, with sections up to 12.5%. Starting from Candelario, the ascent is 9.5km long with 7 hairpin turns. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 721 meters. The average percentage is 7.58%. The drive offers stunning views.
