A memorable road trip to Puerto de Somiedo
Puerto de Somiedo is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.485m (4,872ft) above the sea level, located in the Cordillera Cantábrica, a mountain range in northern Spain.
The pass is located in the heart of the Somiedo Natural Park, in the municipality of Santa María del Puerto. The pass links the Principado de Asturias and Castilla y León. The road over the pass is totally paved. It’s called AS-227.
Access to the pass is typically open all year round, with the occasional closure in winters due to dangerous weather conditions. Starting from La Riera, the ascent is 19.8km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 996 meters. The average slope is 5.03%.
