A Wild Paved Road to Puerto del Leon in Malaga

Puerto del León is a mountain pass at an elevation of 955m (3,133ft) above sea level, located in Málaga province, Spain. The climb is very popular with bikers in Andalusia.

Where is Puerto del León?

The pass, also known as Cuesta de la Reina, is located in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, in the southern part of Spain. The road through the pass was part of the old route from Málaga to Granada.

Is the road through Puerto del León paved?

The road through the summit is totally paved. It’s called A-7000, formerly known as N-321. The road features many turns and two pigtails—turns that loop over their own road, allowing for rapid climbing. It has even been featured in the Spanish Vuelta race.

How long is Puerto del León?

Set high in the Montes de Málaga, a mountain range in the Penibaetic System, the road through the pass is 29.5 km (18.33 miles) long. It runs south to north, from the city of Málaga to the village of Colmenar.
