There is a giant cave (Cueva Madre or Cueva de las Grullas) halfway down the ravine, located beneath a marble quarry still in use; and a spectacular display of colors, shapes, and small concavities on the towering limestone walls that surround the ravine, carved by erosion in its prehistoric, water-filled past.

Although it seems impossible, a railway line once ran through the canyon. Next to the Cueva Madre stands a 42-meter-high pillar from the Zaragoza-Utrillas railway bridge, inaugurated in 1904, which carried coal to Zaragoza until 1966. Severely deteriorated at its base, this pillar was the central support of the bridge. When the train stopped running, the pillar was dynamited in an attempt to demolish it and recover the iron from the bridge itself, but without success. Eventually, other methods had to be used to recover the iron.
