Where is Estrecho del Hocino?

The canyon, carved by the Salobre river, is located in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, in the south-central part of the country. The Estrecho del Hocino is located in the western part of Albacete province, on both sides of the gorge formed by the Salobre River as it passes between the Hocino or Navaza hills.

Is Estrecho del Hocino paved?

The road through the canyon is fully paved. It’s called AB-5031, also known by locals as the Reolid-Salobre old road. It’s very narrow in parts.

Is the road through Estrecho del Hocino in use yet?

Due to the nature of the area, a huge rockfall in the 2010s entirely blocked the road, and today it’s closed to vehicles. Only pedestrians and bicycles are allowed. It was bypassed by the CM-412 road in the later 20th century.

How long is Estrecho del Hocino?

With stunning red rock walls on one side and the river on the other, the road through the canyon is 3.1 km (1.92 miles) long, running northeast from Reolid to Salobre.
