The road to the summit is called Carretèra de Varradòs. It’s 27 km (16.77 miles) long, running west-east from Arròs to Bagergue. The drive offers scenic views all along the way.
Is the Road to Còth de Varradòs Paved?
The road to the summit has both paved and unpaved sections. It’s fully paved from the start to Saut deth Pish. Beyond the waterfall, the road turns to gravel until the end, and a 4x4 vehicle is required.
How Challenging is the Road to Còth de Varradòs?
The road has very narrow parts, with sharp hairpin turns and dangerous drop-offs caused by avalanches. It can be closed at any time due to heavy snowfalls. This wild mountain climb is narrow in places, without barriers at the roadside, and can have occasional rock debris outside of the summer months. The road was slightly improved (widened a bit) in 2019.
