A pleasant drive to Coll Formic in Montseny
Coll Formic is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1.145m (3756ft) above the sea level located in the province of Barcelona, in the center of the autonomous community of Catalonia, in Spain.
How long is Coll Formic?
Set in the Montseny mountain range, the road to the summit is totally paved in excellent condition. It’s called BV-5301. The pass is 18.2 km (11.30 miles) long running south-north from Montseny to El Brull. It's a mild climb but last kilometers are a bit steeper, hitting an 8.8% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. The pass has been featured in the prestigious Volta a Catalunya cycling race.
Is Coll Formic worth it?
Tucked away in the northeastern part of the country, at the foot of the Matagalls mountain, in the Natural Park of El Montseny, the summit, also known as Collformic, hosts a parking lot and a restaurant. There is usually little traffic but due its proximity to Barcelona, the road can get busy on weekends, particularly in the summer. Plan about 35 minutes to complete the drive without any stop.
