Driving the canyon road to Margalef Dam is not a piece of cake
Located in the Priorat comarca of Tarragona province, in the southern part of the autonomous community of Catalonia, a narrow road leading to Margalef Dam is one of the most scenic canyon roads of Spain.
Tucked away on the eastern part of the country, the road to the Margalef Dam is totally paved, but very narrow running along the Montsant river. Proceed cautiously and hope no other vehicles come from the other direction. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse. Big risk of rock slides. The passengers really enjoy the scenery but the driver must remain concentrated on the road.
Located within the Serra de Montsant Natural Park, the reservoir was built in 1992. The road is 2,9 km (1.80 miles) long running from T-713 road to Margalef Reservoir. The road ends on a parking lot with a picnic area. It’s a quiet road without much traffic.
