Driving the wild road through Pitarque canyon is not a piece of cake
Pitarque canyon road is a very scenic drive running through an incredible landscape located in the province of Teruel, Aragon, in eastern Spain. It’s one of the most scenic canyon roads of Spain.
Set high in the Iberian Range/Sistema Ibérico, within the Maestrazgo comarca, the road is totally paved running through Pitarque canyon, an imposing gorge created by the karst erosion of the waters of the Pitarque River. It’s called TE-V-8042.
The drive is 3.6 km (2.23 miles) long, running east-west from A-1702 road on Barrio las Fabricas village towards Pitarque, a small town. It´s one of the most visited canyons in Teruel province for motorbikers, cyclists and hikers.
The drive is extremely challenging due its narrowness but very scenic, with stunning views. In parts, it’s totally impassable for 2 cars at the same time, so proceed cautiously and hope no other vehicles come from the other direction. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse. Risk of rock slides. The road features 4 unlit tunnels.
