A scenic drive through Hoces del río Mesa
Located in the Province of Zaragoza, in the community autonomous of Aragón, in Spain, the road through Mesa Canyon is a very scenic drive. It’s one of the most scenic canyon roads of Spain.
Tucked away in the Sierra de Solorio range, the road is totally paved running through the Hoces del río Mesa, an imposing gorge created by the karst erosion of the waters of the Mesa River. It’s called A-1501 road.
Set in the Sistema Ibérico mountain range, the drive is extremely challenging due its narrowness. In parts, it’s totally impassable for 2 cars at the same time, so proceed cautiously and hope no other vehicles come from the other direction. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse. There are a few parking lots along the way.
The most challenging part of the drive is 7.0 km (4.34 miles) long, running from Jaraba to Calmarza, along the Mesa river. Its narrow canyons with vertical walls exceed 100 meters in height. Risk of rock slides.
