Is the Haustsjøen Mountain Road Unpaved?

Located in the southern part of Norway, the road is named after Haustsjøen Lake. It is completely unpaved. Although it’s possible to drive most of the route with a regular car, good ground clearance is necessary from Reinslia eastward for a couple of kilometers. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for a smoother experience.

How Long is the Haustsjøen Mountain Road?

The road stretches 22 km (13.67 miles), running west-east from Grimsbu to Fylkesveg 686 (FV686) Road, east of Alvdal. The route reaches a peak elevation of 1,035m (3,395 ft) above sea level, winding through a stunning mountain landscape dotted with small mountain huts.
