Bacino di Campo Moro: a very attractive road with endless bends
Bacino di Campo Moro is an alpine lake at an elevation of 2.013m (6,604ft) above the sea level, located in the heart of the Valtellina, in Italy.
The road to the lake is fully paved and features very narrow sections. It’s a very attractive road winding in endless number of bends and tunnels through beautiful scenery as you gain 1.700m from Sondrio. It’s an amazing scenery: cows on green pastures, giant granite mountains in full spectrum of colors, endless streams cascading from glaciers and deep crevasses.
Starting from Sondrio, at an elevation of 300m above the sea level, the ascent is 30.08 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1.716 meters. The average percentage is 5.7 % and the maximum slope is 15%. The road is not closed in winters, but you need winter tyres or snow chains. The road narrows and ascends above Val Lanterna in many sharp bends and tunnels, which were dig in pure granite, till you reach its end at Campo Moro.
