The Wild Road to Colle del Preit
Colle del Preit is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.065m (6,774ft) above the sea level, located in Cuneo, a province in the southwest of the Piedmont region of Italy.
The road to reach the summit was unpaved and extremely bad. But the surface was improved the last years and now it’s totally paved but very narrow. The last part of the road is closed to private vehicles. It is a lonely road but there are a few tourists going up.
Starting from Preit, a small town, the ascent is 5.4 km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 524 meters. The average gradient is 9.70%. Especially the last stretch just before the pass is very steep, hitting a 16.0% through some of the ramps.
