Passo della Mauria is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1,298m (4,259ft) above sea level, located on the boundary between the regions of Veneto and Friuli in Italy.
What’s at the summit of Mauria Pass?
Set high in the northern part of the country, at the summit there’s a cross in memory of fallen partisans. The wrought iron cross is placed on a base of cement and stone. It bears the names of Arrigo Papazzoni "Linda," inscribed on the band placed on the cross, and Peis Sparin Pio "Brusco," on the stylized bullet attached to the base. These were partisans who fell in combat at Passo della Mauria on June 14, 1944. At the summit, there is also a parking lot and a restaurant. Near the pass to the south is the source of the Tagliamento.
Is the road to Mauria Pass paved?
The pass is traversed by the Strada Statale 52 (SS52). It is a paved road with a maximum gradient of 10% and is fairly narrow. The road features 12 hairpin turns and is usually open year-round.
How long is Mauria Pass?
The road through the summit is 21km (13 miles) long. It runs north-south from Pelos di Cadore to Forni di Sopra.
- Starting from Pelos di Cadore, the ascent is 12.5 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 568 meters, with an average gradient of 4.5%.
- Starting from Forni di Sopra, the ascent is 9.1 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 404 meters, with an average gradient of 4.4%.
