Road trip guide: Conquering Cima Palon
Cima Palon is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.067m (6,781ft) above the sea level, located in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol in Italy.
Tucked away in the Pasubio mountain range, in the pre-Alps, the road to the summit is a chairlift access road, totally unpaved and closed to private vehicles. The summit is crowned with communication towers and a bar. During WWI on the Cima Palòn there was a station of the Italian soldiers. On the summit you can still see trench systems and shell craters.
The road to the summit is totally impassable from the end of October to May and directly overlooks the city of Trento. The road is steep. Starting from a parking lot on the Strada Provinciale 85 (SP85), the ascent is 1.98 km (1.23 mi) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 417 meters. The average percentage is 21.06 %.
