Kalami Beach
Kalami beach is a beautiful sandy beach located in eastern Crete, Greece.
The road to the beach is gravel in very bad conditions. Starting from Perivolakia it’s a 5.0 km long dirt track with some hairpin turns, very steep and narrow. After rain, even a single rainfall, conditions of the road can be challenging. Watch out for sudden loose-gravel breaks.
The road is pretty busy at summer months. 4x4 or SUV vehicle recommended. The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views. Near the beach, the gorge becomes so narrow that hides the sky in a zone called Perivolakia gorge. Through this narrow slit passes the road that barely fits a car. The interior of the canyon is spectacular, with high towering walls.
