Vathi Beach, one of the Greece's top coastal drives
Situated very close to the southernmost point of Crete, in Greece, Vathi Beach is a small beach within a small cove, ideal for tranquility and seclusion. The beach is shaped at the exit of a small gorge, surrounded by long cliffs.
The beach is is bordered by high rocks in the central south of Crete. Starting from Monastiri Odigitrias, the road to the beach is 9.0 km. It’s a very rough trail with three or four stretches difficult to pass by normal cars. This route is not suitable for normal cars. 4x4 highly recommended. Along the way there are gates that must be opened to allow passage and closed to ensure that the livestock is not dispersed. The route is very scenic: it offers spectacular views of the sea and impressive rock formations with a karst appearance. A traveler on this road must be experienced and completely devoted to safe, slow and obstacle-conscious driving to deter danger.
