The road linking Samarina and Fourka is a high mountain road located in North West Greece. It’s one of the highest roads of the country, climbing up to 1.747m (5,731ft) above the sea level.
The road is totally paved and links the towns of Samarina (Grevena regional unit, West Macedonia) and Fourka (Ioannina regional unit, Epirus). Samarina is considered one of the highest villages of the country.
The road, located within the Pindus mountain range is 12.7 km long. It’s pretty steep. It has a well-deserved reputation for being dangerous because of unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards, and driving under these conditions, can be extremely challenging. It is subject to winter snowfalls with such a high summit altitude, and the road can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow.
