Drakolimni Smolika
Drakolimni Smolika is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 1.914m (6,279ft) above the sea level, located in the Ioannina regional unit, Epirus, Greece.
The road to the lake is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. The road is usually impassable in winters. Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. The water is crystal clear and the lake' s depth is 5 meters. This is an alpine lake and is considered to be from the ice age.
It’s one of the highest mountain roads of the country. 4x4 required. Stay away if you're scared of heights. Expect a trail pretty steep. Wet conditions may make for tough driving along the muddy road. The lake' s name comes from the dragon, a mythical creature, which is said to have inhabited it and was in constant battle with the dragon that lived in Smolika.
