How to drive the hairy coastal road to Livaniana in Crete?

Livaniana is a small coastal town hanging on the southern outskirts of the White Mountains, located in the Chania Regional Unit, on the Greek island of Crete.

How long is the road to Livaniana?

Tucked away on the southwestern coast of Crete, near the gorge of Aradena, the road to the town is hair-raising. It’s 9.0 km (5.59 miles) long, running north-south from Aradena to Finikas.

How challenging is the road to Livaniana?

The road is extremely challenging and daunting. It has narrow sections, countless turns, 16 sharp hairpin bends, and dangerous drop-offs. The road starts and ends asphalted, but about three kilometers are unpaved, consisting only of mountain stone. The drops are steep, and there is no sign of a barrier anywhere.
