How to get by car to the beautiful Kolokytha beach in Crete?

Located on the northern coast of the island of Crete, Greece, Kolokytha is said to be one of the loveliest beaches in the country, with white sand and turquoise waters.

Where is Kolokytha beach?

The beach, with white sand and crystal-clear calm waters, is located on the island of Spinalonga, in the Gulf of Elounda in northeastern Crete, in Lasithi, next to the town of Elounda. The remote beach can be very crowded, so it’s recommended to go early.

How long is the road to Kolokytha beach?

The narrow coastal road to the beach is pretty challenging. It’s a dirt road and is totally unpaved. Starting from Elounda, the road to the beach is 2.8 km (1.73 miles) long.

Can I drive to Kolokytha beach?

The last part of the road has big rocks and loose stones, so a 4x4 vehicle is required. The road is usually closed to private vehicles, and it’s recommended to park at the small parking lot at the Church of St. Luke, about halfway down the road.
