A memorable road trip to Lazena Pass
Lazena Pass is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1.144m (3,753ft) above the sea level, located in the peripheral unit of Ioannina, in Epirus, Greece. It’s a beautiful motorcycle pass that few motorbikers know.
Set high in the Tzoumerka mountains range the road to the summit is totally paved but little used. The road is not easy, with countless turns, twists and 45 hairpin turns. The mountain road features stunning views and it’s recommended for those who want to enjoy driving different tracks in the beauty of Greek nature.
The pass road is 27 km (16.77 miles) long, running west-east from Lazena to Ktistades. Ideal time to travel is daylight. Not advised night drive. The road is steep in parts, hitting a 17.5% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
Located within the National Park of Tzoumerka, the drive features different driving sections. Starting the passage at 800 meters, you’ll ascend to 1000 meters and the next hairpins lead you to 300 meters. Then, the trees that cover you of the sun, pass the river Arachthos through the bridge of Politsa and then the road through the gorge ascends back at 800 meters.
