Pic Mercader
Pic Mercader, also known as Tossal Mercader, is a high mountain peak atn an elevation of 2.468m (8,097ft) above the sea level, located on the border of Ariège and Pyrénées-Orientales departments in southern France.
Located in the Pyrenees mountain range, the road to the summit is unpaved. The road is called Chemin Arriège-Pyrenées. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime and can sometimes block some sections of the road, being extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice. Along the way you can enjoy a high mountain environment typical of the Pyrenees area.
This trail can be done only a very narrow time-frame in the summer (end of August). The wind is usually quite strong at mountain areas. The ascent is very steep. Starting from Col de Puymorens, the ascent is 6.8 km long with 14 hairpin turns. The elevation gain is 548 meters. The average gradient is 8.05%.
