Lac Long Supérieur
Lac Long Supérieur is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 2.126m (6,975ft) located in the Mercantour Massif, in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France.
The road to the summit is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). On the banks of the lake there’s a mountain hut known as Refuge des Merveilles. 4x4 vehicle required. Expect a trail pretty steep. The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views. The lake is located in the heart of the rock engravings of the Valley of Merveilles. This valley is located at the foot of Mt Bego and houses more than 40,000 rock engraving. It is the largest site of rock engraving in Europe.
