Lago d'Arpon
Lago d'Arpon is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 1.830m (6,003ft) above the sea level located on the border of France and Italy.
The road to the lake, also known as Lago dell'Arpone, is extreme. Only 4x4. It’s extremely narrow and impassable in winters. This road tests the skill, and courage, of any driver. It’s definitely not for anyone suffering from vertigo or a fear of landslides. The road climbs up the Lac de Roterel.
Your wheels will be astounded at the wonderful views of the mountains spread out before you! They are terrible for drivers who are prone to vertigo. In many places the road is bordered by a drop of hundreds of meters (many hundreds of feet) unprotected by guardrails. The gravel road to the lake is an old military road. The French/Italian alpine border is littered with high altitude military roads dating from the late 1800’s and, especially from WW1.
