Starting from Col de l'Iseran, the King of the Alps, the road to the lake is 900m (0.55 miles) long. The road ends on a big parking lot for La Cascade restaurant. It’s one of the highest roads in the country.

The road to the lake is called Chemin du Pissaillas. It’s mostly paved but very potholed due to the snow. To the west of the lake, an unpaved road climbs up to 2.793m (9,163ft) above sea level.
